2013. Family Time

‘Family Time’. Duchamp’s ‘3 Standard Stoppages’ used as a means to measure the height of children. Installation on torn wallpaper (four images).

 ‘Family Time: erratum familial

In this work I reference the informal marks made by parents to record the height of children. It is presented here as if discovered under layers of wallpaper. Partly obscured, beneath one of the layers we also see a child’s drawing of a marching file of soldiers. An idea, scrawled onto another fragment of wallpaper above, describes a line of thread being dropped from a particular height. The way the wallpaper has been torn away bears a passing resemblance to Duchamp’s first experiment with chance ‘3 Standard Stoppages’ 1913. ‘Family Time: erratum familial’ has had three iterations so far at exhibitions in 2013, 2018 and 2022.
