Scaffold
So far, all my attempts to render the scaffolding through drawing have been compromised by the scale dictated by the paper size. Resulting in an unsatisfactory schematic that oversimplified the optical profusion and density of the structure. So I made my own diagrammatic schema, imagining the assembly schedule the scaffolders might have used and drawing it in the order that following this schedule. Paradoxically, this freedom to imagine has led to a shift away from the representational straightjacket and has allowed a different sort of drawing to emerge that juxtaposes different methodologies. So far I’m happier with that.
Late Lights Passing
I get up 3 sometimes 4 times a night. Going back in the dark I pass a window and see across the river to the houses where the lights are usually on and I take a picture on a long time exposure – which is the only way I can get my phone to register in the dark. Next I’ll put these degraded photos into a slideshow where the images fade into one another through black. These will form the basis of a series of drawings.
